Bulls Turn to the Dark Side

Durham Bulls have turned to the dark side, with Darth Vader-style jerseys and all the trappings of Star Wars.

You know its good when the Durham Bulls are involved. This year they have turned to the dark side, with Darth Vader-style jerseys and all the trappings of Star Wars.

What I really love about this was the full narrative of the promotion in their release.  Why Star Wars, the playful poke behind the game, opponent, jerseys…all spelled out.  This is so much richer and effective that “Star Wars Night”…which is short-hand internally for teams but lacks the “I-gotta-buy-a-ticket-right-now!” clarity that fans crave.

Here it is:

Since the Bulls joined the International League in 1998, no team has more division titles (13), Governors’ Cup Championships (5) or Triple-A National Championships (2). It’s almost as if over the last 20 seasons, the Durham Bulls have become the Evil Empire of the I.L. Don’t believe us? We find your lack of faith disturbing.

As the most accomplished team since joining the galaxy (league), no franchise has had the success of the Durham Bulls. So this year we’re flipping the script.

The reigning Triple-A National Champs will go full Darth Vader for Star Wars Night in 2018, donning the jersey you see above, a black hat and black pants. (We wanted to go with a cape, too, but figured that might make it difficult on our players.)
