Bing Bong at MSG

The most organic of expressions has risen from the mean streets of NYC and the Knicks have embraced it.

Oh boy.

Bing Bong has taken New York City.

Rally Cry. Taunt. Bonding experience…. and now, official sound effect of MSG.

Of course Bing Bong is innocent enough, it’s funny, quirky catchy and organic. Having your kids running around the house screaming Bing Bong is just funny.

And for those who know the origin, they get an extra chuckle.

Where did this come from?

How did this start? What does it mean? It’s all goes back to a viral video after the Knicks’ season-opening double overtime victory against the Boston Celtics.

As a hyped crowd exited Madison Square Garden after the victory, Side Talk NYC — self-described as “New York’s one-minute street show” — put a camera on Knicks fans celebrating after the win. The video — which has already been viewed more than 5.5 million times, with more than 35K shares — includes several hilarious reactions, including one where I guy looks into the camera and says “bing bong.” (SBNation)

Warning: NSFW

I love that the Knicks have spun this and made this their own. Origins aside this has already become a rally cry, Play-by-Play call and basket celebration sound effect. T-shirts and Billboards are next.

Had this come from ad agency it would have been laughed out of the building. But it came from the fans and the Knicks listened.

Bing Bong.
