Yard Sign

The Philadelphia Phantoms borrowed from political candidates and started using yard signs as a way to promote games.

They purchased a few hundred yard signs just like the political signs and on game days they have their fans place the signs outside their homes, businesses, schools, wherever it will generate a good amount of traffic as a way to let as many people as possible know about the evening's home game.

The signs simply said, "Phantoms Hockey Home Tonight!"

They also put together a contest going along with the signs now too where if a fan sends in a picture of the sign and themselves, they could win a suite at a home game. One suite a month will be given away from January through April.

There are a number of interesting twists you could include with this promotion, including having a fan patrol of front office staffers out looking for signs....and the first sign they find could be awarded with a team related prize or in-game recognition as Fan of the Game.

Gameops.com offers several varieties of Yard Signs that can be used for this promotion. Use the form below for additional information and pricing.

Thanks to Mike Hart and the Philadelphia Phantoms for their help with this Spotlight.

This clip on YouTube explains why they work (or doesn't) for political candidates.  The strongest case for signs is it allows people to stake their allegiance to a candidate (or team).  Let your fans be your biggest marketing advocate and reward them like the Phantoms for a great promotion.

"WIN A SUITE AT A HOME GAME" CONTEST

Help us let the Delaware Valley know when the Philadelphia Phantoms have a home game! Pick up a sign at any Philadelphia Phantoms' home game or request one by contacting the Philadelphia Phantoms. Decorate the sign and post it in a legally permissible location where you think that many people will see it. Then, mail a photograph to the Philadelphia Phantoms of the location (which includes your sign), along with the address of the location, your complete name, street address, city, state, zip code, day and evening telephone numbers, email address and date of birth. The Philadelphia Phantoms will award twelve tickets in a suite to an upcoming home game to each of four fans who, in the sole opinion of the Philadelphia Phantoms, most creatively decorates a sign and posts it in the most visible location.

The Philadelphia Phantoms will award the twelve tickets to a suite on or about the fifteenth of each month (except in April, when the Philadelphia Phantoms will award the prize on or about the fifth) for the remainder of the 2004-05 season (for a total of four awards). Each winner will be notified via email or by telephone. Each winner must respond to email or voicemail notification within 48 hours or he/she will forfeit the prize. Fans will have until April 1, 2005 to submit photographs. Photographs should be mailed to: Philadelphia Phantoms, Attn: "Win a Suite at a Home Game" Contest, Wachovia Spectrum, 3601 South Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19148. All photographs become the property of the Philadelphia Phantoms and will not be returned.

No extension of event dates will be granted except at the sole discretion of the Philadelphia Phantoms. This contest is only open to legal residents of Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware, 18 years of age and older as of the date of entry. Each winner is responsible for all other incidentals/expenses not listed as being included, including, without limitation, transportation and all other personal expenses.
